Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Rentolony, Nigeria's rental marketplace and business directory (the "Platform"), operated by Rentolony ("Rentolony", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Rentolony.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a legally binding contract under Nigerian law to create an account. If you register a business account, you confirm that you have the authority to bind that business to these Terms.

2. What Rentolony Is (and Is Not)

Rentolony is a marketplace and directory that connects Customers who wish to rent items with Vendors who offer items for rent. Rentolony is not a party to any rental agreement, does not own, inspect, or control any item listed, and does not act as an agent for either party. Any agreement to rent an item — including price, duration, condition, delivery, deposits, and damage terms — is a contract solely between the Customer and the Vendor. Rentolony's role is limited to providing the platform through which Customers and Vendors discover and communicate with each other.

3. Account Registration & Security

You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@rentolony.ng if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

4. Vendor Obligations

If you list items on Rentolony as a Vendor, you agree that:

• Every listing accurately describes the item, its condition, availability, and pricing, and does not mislead Customers;
• You have the legal right to rent out the item(s) listed;
• You will honour the availability, pricing, and terms shown on your listing at the time a Customer enquires;
• Documents submitted for business or identity verification are genuine and belong to you or your registered business;
• You are solely responsible for collecting any rental payment, deposit, or damage fee directly from the Customer, and for any tax obligations arising from your rental income; and
• You will comply with all applicable Nigerian laws relevant to your business and the items you rent out.

5. Customer Obligations

If you use Rentolony to find and rent items, you agree that:

• You will provide accurate information when enquiring about or booking a listing;
• You are responsible for inspecting an item and agreeing terms (price, deposit, duration, condition, return date) directly with the Vendor before any rental payment is made;
• You will use rented items responsibly and return them in the agreed condition and timeframe; and
• Any dispute regarding a rental — including damage, late return, or non-payment — is between you and the Vendor; Rentolony is not responsible for resolving it, though we may assist by facilitating communication where reasonably possible.

6. Listings & Content

You retain ownership of the content (text, photos, descriptions) you submit, but you grant Rentolony a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content on the Platform for the purpose of operating and promoting the marketplace. Every listing is subject to admin review before it goes live and may be removed at our discretion if it violates these Terms, is inaccurate, or is reported and found to breach our policies.

7. Verification Is Not a Guarantee

Rentolony may display a "Verified" badge on a Vendor's profile once submitted business or identification documents have been reviewed and approved by our team. A Verified badge indicates that the documents supplied appeared genuine at the time of review — it is not a guarantee of the quality, safety, condition, or legality of any item listed, nor a guarantee against fraud. Customers should still exercise their own judgement (see our Safety Guidelines).

8. Reviews & Ratings

Reviews must reflect a genuine experience with the listing or business reviewed. Fake, defamatory, or manipulated reviews (including incentivised or self-reviews) are prohibited and may be removed. We reserve the right to moderate, edit visibility of, or remove reviews that violate this Policy or applicable law.

9. Fees, Subscriptions, Wallet & Payments to Rentolony

Rentolony does not charge Customers or Vendors for arranging a rental directly between themselves. However, Vendors may purchase optional subscription plans, promotional placements, or fund an in-platform wallet to access enhanced visibility and features; these payments are made to Rentolony through our payment processor, Paystack, and are subject to the pricing and terms displayed at the time of purchase. Subscription fees are generally non-refundable except where required by law or expressly stated at the point of purchase. Wallet balances, once funded, may be used only for eligible in-platform purchases (such as promotions and subscriptions) and are subject to our Wallet & Withdrawal terms displayed in your Vendor dashboard.

10. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

• List or promote illegal, stolen, counterfeit, or dangerous items;
• Impersonate any person or business, or misrepresent your identity or affiliation;
• Attempt to circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with the security of the Platform;
• Scrape, harvest, or otherwise systematically extract data from the Platform without our written permission;
• Use the messaging, contact, or review features to send spam, harassment, or unsolicited advertising;
• Upload false, forged, or someone else's identification or business documents; or
• Use the Platform for any purpose that is unlawful under Nigerian law.

11. Intellectual Property

The Rentolony name, logo, platform design, and underlying software are the property of Rentolony and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works from the Platform without our prior written consent.

12. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law, Rentolony disclaims all warranties, express or implied, regarding the Platform, including the accuracy of listings, the conduct of any Customer or Vendor, and the quality, safety, or legality of any item listed. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Platform.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rentolony shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Platform, any transaction or dispute between a Customer and a Vendor, or the condition, safety, or legality of any rented item. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall not exceed the total fees you paid to Rentolony (not to any Vendor) in the six months preceding the claim.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Rentolony harmless from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your use of the Platform, or your interactions with another user.

15. Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account, or remove any listing, at our discretion, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, provided false information, or engaged in conduct harmful to other users or the Platform. You may close your account at any time by contacting hello@rentolony.ng, subject to the data retention terms in our Privacy Policy.

16. Dispute Resolution & Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform (excluding disputes between a Customer and a Vendor, which are between those parties) shall first be addressed through good-faith negotiation with our support team, and failing resolution, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nigeria.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
