Safety Guidelines

Last updated: August 29, 2026

Rentolony connects Customers with Vendors directly — we do not inspect items, handle handovers, or process payments between the two parties. These guidelines are here to help both Customers and Vendors rent and list safely.

1. For Customers: Before You Book

  • Check the Vendor's profile for a Verified badge, ratings, and reviews from previous customers.
  • Read the listing carefully, and message the Vendor to ask any questions about the item's condition, accessories included, and availability.
  • Agree on price, deposit (if any), rental duration, delivery/pickup arrangement, and return condition before you commit or send any money.
  • Where possible, ask for recent photos or a short video of the actual item you'll be renting.

2. For Customers: Meeting for Pickup or Delivery

  • Where possible, arrange pickup or delivery at a safe, public, or verifiable location — such as the Vendor's registered business address — rather than an unfamiliar private address.
  • Meet during daylight hours where practical, and consider bringing a friend or family member along, especially for higher-value items.
  • Inspect the item on collection and note any existing damage together with the Vendor before you leave, to avoid disputes when you return it.

3. For Customers: Payments

Rentolony does not process rental payments between Customers and Vendors — that arrangement is made directly between you. Be cautious of any Vendor who:

  • Insists on unusual payment methods (e.g. gift cards, crypto, or payment to a personal account with a different name from the business);
  • Demands the full rental value be paid upfront, in cash, before you've even seen the item; or
  • Pressures you to complete payment quickly outside of the platform's messaging trail, with no receipt or written confirmation of terms.

Keep a written or chat record of what you agreed with the Vendor — it's your best protection if a dispute arises later.

4. For Vendors: Protecting Your Items

  • Where practical, ask to see a valid means of identification from a Customer before handover, and note the details.
  • Take dated photos of the item's condition immediately before handover and immediately after return.
  • Clearly state your rental terms — deposit, late-return fees, and damage policy — on your listing or in writing before the rental begins.
  • For high-value items, consider requesting a refundable security deposit, held and agreed directly with the Customer.

5. For Vendors: Safe Meetups & Handover

  • Meet at your registered business address or another safe, public location whenever possible.
  • Avoid sharing your home address with a Customer you haven't met before, unless you're comfortable doing so.
  • Trust your instincts — if an enquiry feels suspicious (unusually urgent, unwilling to answer basic questions, or asking to skip standard verification), it's reasonable to decline the booking.

6. Red Flags to Watch For

  • A user who refuses to communicate through the Platform's messaging and immediately pushes to WhatsApp, email, or phone for "a better price."
  • Prices that are significantly below the market rate for a similar item — often a sign of a scam listing.
  • Requests for payment via untraceable methods, or to an account name that doesn't match the business or person you're dealing with.
  • Pressure tactics — urgency, guilt-tripping, or refusal to answer straightforward questions about the item or the rental terms.
  • Stock or generic photos that don't match the specific item described, or an unwillingness to provide additional real photos.

7. Reporting a Concern

If a listing, Vendor, or Customer seems suspicious, or you experience a problem — including a scam attempt, harassment, or a dispute you're unable to resolve directly — please report it to our support team so we can investigate:

We take reports seriously and may suspend accounts found to violate our Terms of Service.

8. In an Emergency

Rentolony is not an emergency response service. If you are ever in a situation involving immediate danger, threats, or a crime in progress, contact the Nigeria Police Force or the relevant local emergency services immediately before reaching out to us.
